Our Approach
At Justice by Design, our mission is to work alongside community and collaborate as they create flourishing futures, addressing the unique needs and hopes of their local populations. We envision a world where every community designs their own just futures according to their own definitions. By involving community members in every step of the design process, we ensure that their expertise leads the work, leading to sustainable and impactful stewardship.
Justice by Design is committed to transforming the way professionals and communities engage in the co-design process. Our vision is to create a participatory framework where local insights drive the vision that defines a flourishing future and the innovation to achieve that vision. We don’t empower communities; they empower themselves to lead the design process. We not only work with communities, we are made up of community members.
Our Collaborative Approach
Co-framing
Our journey begins by inviting community members to join our team as equal partners. Their insights and experiences direct the work. Communities co-facilitate the work. They choose the methodologies we use, and we all explicitly decide how we make decisions.
Co-learning
Through co-research, we embark on a shared exploration, ensuring that community expertise and communal wisdom is leading the design process. This collaborative learning phase is crucial for building shared vision and defining what flourishing means for the community.
Co-working
Co-implementation means we work alongside community members, transforming innovative ideas into sustained practices. Co-evaluation means assessing impact together according to community definitions of success, refining our strategies for positive community outcomes.
