We employ systems practice to address social problems
When Human-centered Design leaves a problem unaffected, makes it worse, or only temporarily “solves” it, we use a robust systems approach.
Our Story
From a failed meetup group to a public benefits coop, learn about the history that forms who we are today.
Case study Part I: Digital literacy
This project is an example of research justice through a participatory design model in which community members are equal members of the design team through the entire process. It also embeds systems practice inside of the design research process so that the linkages between digital literacy, device access, Internet access, power access, gender, and more were uncovered.
Case study Part II: DIGITAL LITERACY PROTOTYPING
This is a continuation of the digital literacy project, utilizing an inclusive participatory process in prototyping digital literacy interventions. This project demonstrates the use of positive deviance and builds on simple systems maps created from Part I.
